Why do I use Moodle?
I use Moodle because it is easy to use.
- I can customize it to meet the needs of each particular class.
- Students can learn their way around quickly.
Customizing Moodle
Courses can be set up with different formats.
I use weekly formats
and topic formats.
Messaging
Moodle messaging allows me to communucate quickly and easily with my students without cluttering up my email inbox. I can elect to have messages forwarded to my inbox or not.
Assignment types
Assignments can be any of the following:
Online text
Offline activity
- This is good for group work, oral presentations ot any activity students do elsewhere online -- like on a blog or wiki.
Upload a single file
- I use this assignment type for work that they are graded on for having done – like grammar activities and vocabulary work.
Advance uploading of files
- This is the assignment type I use most. It is especially appropriate for writing assignments with multiple drafts. It is also good for any assignment where you want to return the students papers to them.
- NOTE: This assignment type can be customized to allow for varying numbers of documents to be uploaded. Everyone must be aware of the fact that submitting for marking means no more drafts can be uploaded. Students should click on the "upload" button instead of "Send for marking".
Why do I use Moodle?
Moodle allows me to
- use different course set-ups,
- stay in touch with my students,
- use different assignment types,
- concentrate on teaching rather than on the technology.
